چکیده

2014 The static scattering intensity from a system composed of charged, coiled polyions, counterions and coions is investigated theoretically. The polyion configuration is described by a wormlike chain form factor having a persistence length and an excluded volume parameter obtained from Odijk’s theory. Counterion condensation is accounted for in both, the interactions between polymer segments on different polymers and free ions, and the single polymer form. Modelling the polymer segments, or monomers, as charged hard spheres allows to express the correlations between segments on different chains and free ions in terms of sizes and charges of the constituents. Within the three-component description results on the scattering from polyions and from counterions are obtained and their relation to experimental data is discussed. J. Phys. Light scattering study of salt-free 'polyelectrolyte behaviour' of monotelechelic ionomers in a polar solvent

Salt-free polyelectrolyte behaviour which is typically observed at low polymer concentrations for polyelectrolyte aqueous solutions and random ionomer non-aqueous solutions (in polar solvents) (i.e., negative angular dependence of the reciprocal scattering in static light scattering and an appearance of the fast mode in dynamic light scattering) has been observed for monotelechelic ionomer solu...

Complex Formation between Polyelectrolyte and Oppositely Charged Mixed Micelles: Static and Dynamic Light Scattering Study of the Effect of Polyelectrolyte Molecular Weight and Concentration

Dynamic light scattering, static light scattering, and turbidimetry were used to investigate the effect of polyelectrolyte molecular weight and concentration on complex formation between a strong polyelectrolyte, poly(dimethyldially1ammonium chloride) (PDMDAAC), and oppositely charged mixed micelles of Triton X-100 (TX100) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The hydrodynamic radius (Rh) of the co...

Observation of the dynamics of polyelectrolyte strong solutions by quasi-elastic neutron scattering

2014 We report results of quasi-elastic neutron scattering experiments on concentrated polyelectrolyte solutions in water without added salt. The polyion is sulphonated polystyrene, associated successively with sodium and tetramethylammonium counterions. In this second case, all possible configurations of deuterated and non deuterated charged components are tested. The quantities first derived ...

Polyelectrolyte Properties

A major focus in our research group over the years has concerned the basic physical properties of polyelectrolytes in solution; scattering, interactions, conformations, and hydrodynamics. In the past it was often thought that polyelectrolyte solutions were almost impossible to measure reproducibly by light scattering, especially at low ionic strength. While it is true that the scattering from p...

Light scattering, CD, and ligand binding studies of ferrihemoglobin-polyelectrolyte complexes.

Quasi-elastic light scattering (QELS), electrophoretic light scattering (ELS), CD spectroscopy, and azide binding titrations were used to study the complexation at pH 6.8 between ferrihemoglobin and three polyelectrolytes that varied in charge density and sign. Both QELS and ELS show that the structure of the soluble complex formed between ferrihemoglobin and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chlori...
